MOVING LIGHT
To be absolutely right there in the moment. Here, in situ. Observing the light. Through the door slightly ajar, through the keyhole or completely openly. To stop, put the work aside and notice how the light dances around her neck, her ear lobes, fingertips and hands. How peaceful she is, how complete.
Light that sparkles with silver and gold rays, that dance so delicately here, like lightening there, and glow over there. In the early morning, the warm afternoon, at dusk and as the darkness approaches. Indescribable peace that’s full of life – light moving. She, in her most beautiful moment.
The inspiration for my collection Moving Light is the ancient tradition of “eveningtime”, when during the darkest months, a number of generations would gather together in the candlelight and fantastic works of art would be created – embroidery, crochet and other finely crafted hand work. Meditative work would be interspersed with singing songs, telling stories and anecdotes, creating things that elicit wonder to this very day.
I, Anita Sondore, a present day court painter, catch all that is beautiful from the past, present and future and create a deep, unbelievably beautiful painting.
I, Anita Sondore ask – what would it be like if this tradition were still alive today? What kinds of things would be created? What materials would you work with? What kinds of things would a modern woman – with our contemporary “baggage” and knowledge, create? What kinds of ornaments, signs, patterns would we crochet in silk, engrave in gold and silver, capture in diamonds and sapphires?
Moving Light is my homage to the ancient tradition of “eveningtime”, the ethnographic heritage of my homeland and traditional craftwork. It raises the questions of – who am I, where do I come from, where does my beauty, lightness and light hide?
